RUSSIAN SKATER ELENA BEREZHNAYA LACES UP HER SKATES FOR THIN ICEWHAT: Elena Berezhnaya of St. Petersburg, Russia, twice World Champion and Olympic Co-Champion, hits the ice with partner David Pelletier, an unlikely pairing as the two skaters were competitors and the focus of the worst judging scandal in figure skating history in 2002. The two ultimately shared a gold medal at the Salt Lake City Olympic Games after much uproar regarding the judging of the long program at that competition. After eight years, and for the first time ever, they will skate together on Thin Ice, televised live in prime-time on ABC Television. And in an exciting twist, they’ll compete against David Pelletier’s Salt Lake City partner, Jamie Sale’.
Confirmed Thin Ice competitors thus far include Shae-Lynn Bourne, Canada, 2003 World Ice Dance Champion, who will pair with John Zimmerman, three-time U.S. Pairs Champion; Patrice Lauzon, Canada, twice World silver medalist, who will couple with Jamie Sale’; plus two skaters whose partners have not been named -- Shizuka Arakawa, Japan, 2006 Olympic gold medalist, and Michael Weiss, USA, three-time U.S. National Champion.
Judges will be Katarina Witt, twice Olympic gold medalist, Kristi Yamaguchi, 1992 Olympic gold medalist and Season #6 champion of Dancing with the Stars, and Dick Button, two-time Olympic champion. Hosts will be Elisabeth Hasselbeck, Emmy Award-winning co-host of The View, and Kurt Browning, four-time World Champion figure skater.
